We are called to be the light of the world; to help God to pull others close to Himself{Matthew 5:14-16}. This light is the love of God inside of us. God wants us to spread this love to all who need it and He is willing to support us if we are ready to do His will. The light of God in us is special and powerful and that is why the devil attacks it through:

  1. Sin- opens the door for the devil which negatively affects our relationship with God. We need to maintain a good and steady relationship with God for it serves as our direction, guidance and strength in doing God’s work.
  2. Laziness- the work of God requires hardwork. When we are lazy it becomes hard to prepare and carry out the work of God. Preparation may include; meditation on the word of God{luke 5:16}, prayer and sometimes fasting for the Holy Spirit to empower us. Laziness will make us procrastinate the work of God of which He does not like. There is a lot of work to be done{Matthew 9:35-38} so He needs people who are ready to sacrifice their energy and time for His kingdom.
  3. Fear will always prevent us from doing what we are supposed to do and from becoming what we are meant to be{Matthew 25:14-30}
  4. Pride will make us selfish and draw away from others. God loves unity- where two or three are gathered in my name…I am with them{Matthew 18:20}. Unity is important to fight attacks from the devil for united we stand, divided we fall. Jesus knew this hence sent  the disciples two by two to invite people to the kingdom of God{Luke 10:1}.
  5.  People are good but some may influence us in the wrong way, mislead us and make us go astray from our focus i.e  Christ Jesus {1 Corinthians 5:32}.

So how can this light grow and become strong:-

  1. Live a life of total surrender to God. Moses maintained a healthy relationship with God because he lived a life of complete surrender to God{Exodus 3:51 & Numbers 12:4-9}.
  2. Live a life of obedience – even though David committed sins that were grave he still managed to please God through continuous repentance of his sins therefore living a life of obedience. To date we still celebrate his greatness however much he committed grave sins. God is merciful and He will restore us to our former glory if we live in obedience to Him{ 2 Samuel 12:1-13}.
  3. Make the right choices. Choose the right friends who have a common goal with you for birds of a feather flock together. Ask for wisdom from God to make the right choices like Solomon – He asked for wisdom to do the will of God i.e. to lead Israel.
  4.  Ask for grace. “My grace will be sufficient for you.” {2 Corinthians 12:9}The grace(strength) of God will see us do what is humanly impossible. His grace will help us resist temptations, pray when we are unable, preach when we have never preached before, praise Him even when we lack the strength.
  5. Maintain a consistent prayer life. Prayer is continuous communication with God. It deepens our relationship with God, it opens doors that seem impossible and will make a way where the devil had otherwise blocked.

God is good…..
